Romina stared at River for a long moment, then finally sighed. “Forget it. I didn’t think this blind date through. I didn’t expect you and Marissa to have zero common ground. But she’s here now, so let’s go back in and at least finish the meal. That way, you can’t say I didn’t treat you to dinner.”

River smiled. “Alright. Let’s go eat. You should eat more—you’ve definitely lost weight.”

Romina didn’t respond. She turned and walked back into the private room ahead of him.

She was relieved to see Marissa sitting there, still eating with ease. The girl didn’t look embarrassed or upset at all.

Even though Romina was the vice president of Lafond and technically outranked Marissa, the girl had done nothing wrong. Romina had invited her for a blind date, but the man she arranged it with had ignored her the entire time and only paid attention to her.

Romina felt a bit guilty. Maybe after Marissa had worked another year, she’d find a way to give her a raise or a promotion.
